Hi all! I have been busy lately working on a couple of things, the first is a birthday gift that I finally framed for a friend and I added diamond Stickles glitter glue to the print and the outside of the frame, this was so much fun I'm working on some little ATC's of the same for my Etsy shop:)

And I finally finished a really fun job for my church that I so enjoyed working on. Our parish is building a new church that is due to be finished on 12/12/12 and the cross on top of the church will be going up in a few weeks and my artwork is going inside of the cross as a kind of "time capsule" and will be signed at the bottom of the scroll with my artwork by over 2,000 parishioners. The prayer is the Apostle's Creed and the scrollwork was such fun to work on I used a gold calligraphy pen to touch up the leaves and the outline of the cross. I will also be featured in our upcoming church bulletin:) You never know where your creativity will take you, do you?:)

WATERCOLOR, INK AND GLITTER PRINT WITH QUOTE

Happy Saturday everyone, I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and gearing up for the holidays.

I was sketching some fun quotes in my sketchbook and thought it would be fun to combine watercolor, ink and glitter and came up with a little fun illustration on some watercolor paper. The background is a really pale pink but didnt show up in the scan along with the glitter but I'm trying to get a good shot with my camera.

I also bought a teal frame and added some glitter to the edge of it, it looks really cute, just have to get a good pic:)

ST LUCIA WATERCOLOR/GRAPHITE PAINTING

I got out my watercolors and glitter (which you cant see in this scan) the other day and had a little fun with my St. Lucia Christmas sketch.

I had SO much fun painting and letting my inner artist play, it felt so good!

I googled St Lucia and got a little background on her, I thought I'd share it:

St Lucia was a young Christian girl who was martyred, killed for her faith, in 304AD. The most common story told about St Lucia is that she would secretly bring food to the persecuted Christians in Rome, who lived in hiding in the catacombs under the city. She would wear candles on her head so she had both her hands free to carry things. Lucy means 'light' so this is a very appropriate name.

December 13th was also the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, in the old 'Julian' Calendar and a pagan festival of lights in Sweden was turned into St. Lucia's Day.
St. Lucia's Day is now celebrated by a girl dressing in a white dress with a red sash round her waist and a crown of candles on her head. (Normally electric candles are used for safety!) The crown is made of Lingonberry branches which are evergreen and symbolise new life in winter. Schools normally have their own St. Lucias and some town and villages also choose a girl to play St. Lucia in a procession where carols are sung.

Happy Wednesday! I have been filling up my sketchbook with lots of fun stuff lately and have been working in graphite again for a change as well as watercolor. It is so fun to be working in color again and am drooling over the yummy watercolors in my palette, its been years since I used them and they are good as new, just like they've been waiting for me!

I drew a new mermaid named "Coral" that I'd thought I'd share with you all, she will be made into an stamp soon, I promise!

MY ART MADE A DIFFERENCE TO SOMEONE

This week has not been the best week for drawing, inking or for sketching creativity so I thought I would try writing today for a change. Since I started Michelle Perkett Studio in 2004 I have recieved so many wonderful comments about my work and I have been grateful for all of them, whether they were from someone at an art faire, commenting on my blogs, or on one of my online groups. They are the reason why I have kept creating even through the many highs and lows of being an artist.

The other day I recieved a letter from a wonderful new Etsy customer that I just had to share with all of you, it has touched me as an artist so much, I hope it touches you as well:

"Michelle, I just wanted to share something with you. Yesterday was a stressful day, to say the least.I decided to color some of your beautiful ladies (digital stamp images). Even with having to deal with all the nonsense, I realized that I was smiling to myself. Then I realized that my hands stopped shaking.The wonderful energy that you put in each of your blessed creations, poured thru, and made me feel better. Then I realized that even my pain level had lessened a bit.I really can't thank you enough. This is one of the nicest letters I have ever recieved as an artist and to know that my art helped to make someone feel better and to brighten someone's day is such a gift. I was doodling some cute little owl illustrations in my sketchbook this morning and this little guy showed up first and then the branch which grew into a tree and the moon popped up and the stars in the sky and here it is! I think this will make a really cute image for a stamp.

Hmmm....what will I name him? Any suggestions?

BIBITY-BOBITY-BOO! DIGITAL STAMP SKETCH

I was walking past the cutest children's book store over the weekend called "A Whale of a Tale" that I used to visit alot years ago. The store windows were all decorated for Halloween with pumpkins and witches and teddy bears. I noticed a really cute sign that said "Bibbity - Bobbity- Boo" and remembered the song from Cinderella and thought that would make such a cute stamp!

I went thru my art books when I got home and found one of my Cinderella fairy tale books with a cute illustration of the fairy godmother done by Margaret Evans and I created this sketch from her painting. I think the fairy godmother and her magic pumpkin will make a cute image, dont you?

"GLINDA THE GOOD WITCH" DIGITAL STAMP SKETCH

Happy Monday, everyone! I have had so many witches flying around in my sketchbook over the last week, all of them good and one that you might recognize just floated in from her big pink bubble...

Glinda the Good Witch of the North from the Wizard of Oz, at least here is my interpretation of her!

I was looking at a book that my Dad gave me in 1990, the other day. It is the entire script of the Wizard of Oz along with movie photographs, one of my all time favorite books and my Dad signed it and gave it to me for Christmas that year. He's not with us anymore but I felt like he was enjoying the words and pictures right along with me.

That was one of our favorite movies to watch together when I was growing up and never missed it when it used to only be aired on tv at Easter. I cant even count how many times I've seen it! And I think that's why "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is one of my favorite songs because it always makes me think of my Dad:)

Do you have any favorite memories with your family watching the Wizard of Oz with your family? I'd LOVE to hear them!

Dont you just love this time of year? I sure do. The Halloween and fall decorations are all over the stores now and starting to show up on doorsteps and front yards everywhere, I love it!

I wanted to draw some witches for Halloween but no ugly bad witches showed up in the pages of my sketchbook this week, only good ones!

This little witch only casts happy spells on people:) I havent thought of a name for her yet so after she is inked I may have another name the stamp contest. I think that would be fun, dont you? Happy Halloween!

Here is a little sketch for my next digital stamp called, "Ashley, the Autumn Sprite." She started in my notebook and I fell in love with her and cut her out and taped her into my sketchbook so I could finish her dress and thought she needed a little beret made from an acorn top:)

I'm excited about her and having time to create in my work schedule again. Its nice and cool this week and is inspiring me to create lots of Halloween and fall images and I've added the soundtrack to the Lord of the Rings to my playlist and its giving me lots of inspiration for fairies and goddesses and fairy tale characters:)

I wanted to share a little "sneek peek" of my Autumn Moon Venus image with you, I am so excited about this one! She was inspired by Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" painting, one of my all time favorites.

Its been weeks since I've had the time to sit and play at my drawing table and I had the whole day today to ink, it was awesome!

Hi everyone, happy Friday! I have finally had some free time to sit and visit with my blog, it feels so good to make a post again! My petsitting business is in summer full swing and has been crazy, which is good for me financially but not creatively! I havent had much time to draw in my new sketchbook but I wanted to share my new Autumn Moon Venus sketch with you all.

This image is based on Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" one of my all time favorite paintings. I made her nose a little narrower and gave her just a slight smile and added a moon behind her. I thought this would make really pretty Autumn digital stamp image. What do you think?

I am so loving Christmas in July this year, I dont want it to end! I have been listening to the Nutcracker cd soundtrack and getting lots of inspiration from it.

I sketched a little Clara dancing with her nutcracker toy. I have always wanted to draw a nutcracker, they are so beautiful and my Mom has a wonderful collection of them that I just love to see every Christmas.

Oh, dont you just love Christmas in July? I do too:) I'm not much for the summer heat so I love July to escape back to the Christmas season and to listen to the Nutcracker and Josh Groban Christmas cds while the a/c is cranked up, maybe I'll make some hot chocolate with marshmallows and peppermint sticks:)

This month I think my new digis will all have the theme "wishing" attached to them for Christmas in July and for the wishes and hopes for all of us.

My new digital stamp set "Angel Collection" will be released this Sunday and will be available at my Etsy shop Sunday afternoon! I really had a wonderful time creating this set and am so proud of all my little angels, Love, Inspiration, Faith and Peace. I hope you enjoy them!

The new stamps will be release this Sunday at noon pacific/3:00 eastern at the Michelle Perkett Studio PaperCraft Planet group and we are having a big Release Party with fun games and freebies to kick off the week long celebration and we would love for you to join us for the festivities in honor of the new digital stamp collection!

Just finished my new "Peace Angel" digital stamp and we are planning a fun release party this weekend for the Angel Collection at our Papercraft Planet group, details coming soon!

I will be working on the Inspiration Angel this week and recieved lots more angel inspiration over the weekend. I bought a new coffee mug with a gorgeous angel on it illustrated by one of my favorite artists, Mary Engelbreight and this morning I drew a "Wish upon a star" Angel in my sketchbook that I am so excited about!

"FAITH" ANGEL DIGITAL STAMP SKETCH

I feel so blessed this week with creativity and with abundance as well. I have been having a bit of a mojo slump lately so it was a thrill to have something wonderful coming to life in the pages of my sketchbook yesterday!

Last weekend I went to a super cute shop near where I live called Debra's Cottage. They sell all kinds of furniture, wall art, journals, rubber stamps, home decor and clothing all hand-made and were having a Mother's Day party on Saturday and raffling off lots of prizes during the day and were handing out lots of goodies so I helped myself to the dessert table and had some yummy lemon water. I was ready for some shopping after all that sugar:)

I put my name into 6 of the items to be raffled off, one was a really cool journal by Papaya cards and one was this gorgeous angel which I won! Isnt she beautiful?!

When I took her home the other day I sat staring at her and thought that she might bring me some inspiration and she sure did, I drew "Faith" my new digital stamp sketch yesterday and I cant wait to ink her, I'm truly excited about her and I hope you are too!:)

I'll be inking her this weekend and hoping for lots more inspiration!:)

You warm friendship you have shown to our group and our members has been so warmly appreciated, much more than you know. You have all displayed the qualities that I look for in not only a DT but in friends as well. I will miss you dearly and will miss seeing your incredible creations each week. You all have made MPS a place that people feel comfortable sharing their good times and bad and sharing their MPS creations, knowing that they will always hear a positive comment just like they would from a good friend or family member! And a special thank you for Jan for all of your amazing blog posts on Thursdays and for all of your Challenge posts! They were all so wonderful and we cant thank you enough!! And thank you to Margie for her fun parties and excitement for each of our events at MPS! ART DECO BUTTERFLY BIRTHDAY LADY!

Hello everyone!

What an amazing day to be an artist! I had the day off from work and played in my studio most of the day and I loved every minute of it! I sketched and inked and journaled for hours! I had all my candles burning and my "fairy" music playing and drank Starbucks VIA instant coffee (my new vice) with Peppermint Mocha creamer in it. Yum!

I cant even remember the last time when I fed my little inner artist so much, it was heavenly! I hope you have had some "YOU" time this week for yourselves as well, I highly recommend it!

Welcome to the Michelle Perkett Studio "Holiday Magic" Blog Hop! Merry Christmas everyone!

Can you believe that Christmas is just a week away?!? I want to thank all of you who participated in our hop this weekend and thank you for all of you who are hopping along! We have lots of fun planned for you!!

Our theme is of course Holiday Magic and our blog hop participants were to use their favorite Michelle Perkett Studio holiday image and make a magical creation with it, which is always my favorite thing about our hops!:)

Also, we asked everyone to share what is magical to them about the holidays. if they have a favorite holiday magic memory or maybe they find magic in the eyes of your children or their holiday traditions or their family and friendships? Do they find magic in volunteering to help those less fortunate or maybe they find magic in the holiday cards they are creating! I cant wait to find out!

My holiday magic is being together with my friends and family and how even more special they are to me during this time of year. I am always so sentimental at Christmas and hug them a little longer or laugh with them a little more and tell them how much I appreciate them because I dont see them as much as I'd like to during the rest of the year ( I think I need to work on that!) The magic of family and old friends never fades no matter how long its been since we've seen each other or talked with them.

I also have an extra special magical memory of Christmas with my Dad. He passed away in 1994 and Christmas was always extra special for me because we both shared the same birthday on December 25th. How cool is that!? A friend of mine told me once that I will always have this day to remember him and all the birthdays we shared and the birthday cakes we blew out candles together and that is just what I do. Even now, on Christmas Day I say, "Happy Birthday, Dad!" I know he is still here in spirit helping me blow out the candles on my cake!:)

Our first participant is Sara!! Sara is a new member of our CDAC group and does not yet have a blog so I am posting for her here. I hope you enjoy her lovely Halloween creation and her fun story about her own Halloween traditions at her house!!

"I knew right away that I wanted to keep the focus on the witch and give her the green hairdo. So I coordinated her hair to the papers without too much distraction from the image. I used Tim Coffey's Halloween specialty pad and silver Stickles to accentuate the ends of the her hair. Every year on Halloween, we have the house decorated outside to the hilt and have my girls dress up in their costumes. My parents and my husband's mother come down every year to trick or treat with our girls. After trick or treating, we all go back to my house for pizza and to eat our "treats". The biggest tradition is we ALWAYS have to watch Charlie Brown's "The Great Pumpkin" before the night is over to top it all off --it just wouldn't be Halloween without it."

WILLOW THE AUTUMN FAIRY

I was sneaking in a little sketch time the other day, I havent had much time for that in the last week. I started to draw a goddess which turned into an angel which then turned into a fairy!!:)

I liked the direction this sketch was going but I knew it wasnt quite right so I left it until the evening and worked on it until I was satisfied with it as a fairy! The name Willow came to me right away so that is what she will be called!

I found this quote by Rumi and love it alot but not sure if its the right match for Willow, I have been writing some quotes of my own to go with her but still havent seemed to get the right one to go with her. I think she has the potential to be a very special digital stamp and needs the perfect sentiment/quote!!:) I know I'll figure it out!!:) Hope you like the new sketch!:)

I FINALLY finished my new stamp, "Three Graces Ballerinas" and just listed her on my Etsy shop! It feels so good to finally get it done! It seemed that everytime I tried to work on it, something got in the way so its finally available!!:)

This image is based on the image in one of Botticelli's paintings, one of my all time favorite painters! I have always loved his work and I might have to do the Birth of Venus next!!:)
